What is a good digital SLR camera and lens for around $1000?

Both my camera and lens have gone the way of the dodo and I need a good quality camera and lens. I shoot in a variety of locations, but my biggest concern is having a camera that will work well in low light situations, especially without a flash, since I shoot a lot at nightclubs. I only need one lens for right now, and although I would like a zoom, a good 45-60mm lens would be better for me than a sub par zoom. I've looked at a lot of possibilities, but I need to know if anyone has had personal experience with a camera that fits this criteria. Thanks in advance.
