Which is better, the iphone or droid?

I have resisted getting a smart phone and I am not a tech geek. Several co-workers have each phone and neither group (iphone owners and droid owners) have anything really bad to say that makes my purchasing choice easier. Cost is a major criteria and I do not expect to be a 'power user' that would require a high end data plan. Looking for some insight into which product would be a better solution for me. I would like to know exactly what I want prior to walking into the store. I find speaking with a sales ociate at a cell phone store to be a very confusing adventure. But I think that is intentional on the part of the sales ociates! Many thanks.
